Hi guys. So I just got my baby tegu Reptar today. Right now he's in a 40 gallon tub with coco fiber substrate. I have a heat lamp sitting on top to keep the temp up and it seems really hot and humid in there. Is it possible to have the enclosure too humid? He's got a hide with sphagnum moss in it but I think it's too small because he's burrowing under the actual substrate and I haven't seen him much today. I just want to make sure I'm doing it right.

I put multiple hides in my tank, and he still prefers burrowing under stuff, I have a thirty in there and he has been burrowing under it lately. Tegus just like burrowing themselves over actual hides I think

N a tank like that, you must have a thermal gradient. Under lights at one end about 95-105f. Other end should be in mid-upper 70s f. Withe the hide box.

They don't need to be as humid as many reople think. A moist hide box and decent water bowshould do the trick
