ok so i have a 3 month old b&w hes great i am a new tegu daddy and lately my tegu ( BIG DIESEL ) has been trying to crawl up the side of the cage and jump out and i handle him daily idk what to do how do i fix it
How big is he in a 20gallon(his length)? He should be able to turn around with out having to rub up against the side of the enclosure. The tank may be too small and he just wants out.
So he is also chasing his reflection? Try to get something to block off his reflection or add more light, if he's chasing his reflection he's nose rubbing and that's no good.
How big do you think he is, 12in? 18in? I had to keep Gary and Rango in a 40 gallon over night the first day I had them. Every time I went to check on them Rango was either trying to get out or had gotten out. It could be that the tegu feels crammed, it also could just be trying to get out. Tegus are fairly smart. I'd hustle as much as you can on the adult enclosure.
If you can't get it done within the next couple days I would suggest trying to let him out more often. Put him in the tub or let him run around in a tegu-proofed room. It might help him to burn off some energy.
Sounds like the problem is what everyone is saying. His cage is too small. I think a 40B is the smallest a tegu should ever be in for longer than a couple days.
