I purchased a tegu at a local expo! She was so calm but two weeks later she's been skidish and every time I get close to her she puffs! I use to be able to pick her up and let her roam my reptile room. And when I spay her cage down she gets excited and I can't tell if she gonna be Aggressive or friendly. Sometimes I sit in front of the her cage and she comes up.... Curious.. If any one can help that would be awesome! She's a year old well that what I was told. Some info. She's in a 6x3x3 I keep her basking at 125 f and the cold side 80 f. She eats eggs. Live rat fuzzy. Crickets roaches. And the humidity is between 80 to 90 percent. Thanks

I large is it? Are you concerned about her temperament? You just have to keep at it, everyday interact with it for an hour and just keep after it.

We need pics btw! What does she do?? Tail whip, hiss, open mouth? Just getting an idea of how she is. Mine might let out an occasional hiss if I grab at him quickly but that's it, I got him a week and a half ago and he was 32" when I got him.

Well I've only had my hatchling tegu Attila for almost 3 weeks but I had done some research before getting him. I can advise to stay away from live prey items since this seems to teach the tegu to be aggressive to obtain food. Also the breeder I got Attila from (Ty Park) told me that I should not be intimidated by hissing or tail whipping and continue approaching the tegu. The reason for that being that the tegu will learn that those things will keep you away from him/her. Allot of people may think it is wrong to approach the tegu this way and that it will lead to distrust. But I can say that my tegu trusts me enough that he will now climb up my hand as soon as I put it in the Cage and he also will come out of his hide when I call him. But if you would like to start a bit slower just place your hand inside of the cage, and if you are afraid your fingers might be in danger the first few times then you might want to try wearing some fire resistant gloves or something similar just in case. I hope this helps.
