Today I woke up and the weather was amazing. It was near 60 and sunny. We just had ran/snow over the weekend so I was feeling semi-good about herping. I was undecided where though. I noticed yesterday that a lot of the parks around here were opened again, so I decided to check out a place called Fall Creek. Sure enough, it was open.

After walking only a short way down the creek I found this guy.

At this point I was stoked. I walked only about ten feet, and I noticed a decent sized log. Not thinking there would be anything I rolled it towards me with my foot. Boy was I surprised! Five Long-tailed Salamanders!

This was exactly what I went there for! I was so happy I could have left for home and been content with my finds, but I am a herper! :D I had to press on! One more log, Just a little further!

Glad I did because I found my first snake of 2010! (one that didn't out run me at least. :p)

Today was great. Especially after not finding anything for the last 5 trips.

Oh that is nothin! A guy I know in Indiana flipped 20 spotted sals under one log! and also found a leucistic spotted. He has pictures and trip reports on another forum. Idk if I am allowed to advertise for it here. lol

Nice find, I went the other day & found 5 garter snakes basking in the sun. it was a good start for being 60 deg.

Thanks, and that is awesome about the Garters. I have seen a couple, but after they heat up in the sun they are fast! :bolt
