i recently allowed my two tegus to free roam together under close supervision nero mostly basked after eating a big meal. now this is the confusing part i have not been able to get achilles to eat much since i have had him. i held him til nero was done eating and when put him down he circled around her bowl then started eating while she layed down not far from the bowl. he is not scared of her at all and he is only 18" and she is 40" probably more. now everytime i allow him to free-roam all he do is follow her around. it was funny because today he climbed on her back and they walked around like this for a few minutes. i thought larger tegus made smaller tegus nervous. especially since he is very skiddish thats why i was very nervous about introducing them, but they get along better than i thought they would. he seems so fascinated with her he constantly smells her(toungue flicking) and climbing over her. i dont allow them to free roam unsupervised or for long periods of time.

I know how you feel. I was going through the same thing with our two Arg. b/w male Tegus. The smaller one ( Zeus ) is very shy, too. He did the same thing that your smaller Tegu did. One day he bit the bigger Tegu ( Leonidas ) two times ( in the side and the leg ). They were roaming around, basking and sleeping together. Than one day that happend. I keep them apart now. Hope all goes well with yours. Good luck. Your story would make a cute video for youtube :) .

Here are my two ( it was a while back )

i remember reading that it was leonidas that bit zeus right how much difference are they in size ? lol the teggy back ride would have been funny and the way he follows her around i mean he is not even a big as her tail lol, but seriously i watch nero more so because she is so much bigger than achilles and i would hate for her to hurt him. i have been been trying to get a pic of them together but he is so active when roaming by the time i take the pic all i have is a blurr lol. also another thing i was wondering about is is it normal for a smaller tegu to walk around with the end of their tail straight up in the air? achilles does this when he free roams nero never did this when she was his size or could this be a nervous thing? nero wasnt shy or skiddish at all but he is.

No, Leonidas didn't bite Zeus. Zeus is the smaller one and shy and he is the one that bit Leonidas the bigger one ;) . They are about the same size now as they are in the video. They have slowed down in the eating and growing part because of the winter time.
To be honest with you I don't know why they put the tails up in the air like a scorpion. I did see a video of a Tegu doing that. All of my Tegus never did that.
