Hi im new here so please be nice lol. I have been thinking about owning B&W for a long time now, have done loads of research about taming, feeding in a seperate area, housing requirements ect. Every thing I have read has pointed to the direction that these are wonderful friendly lizards to own, even being classed as similar as a cat. I understand how to tame them from an early age leaving them and letting them get used to me then slowly and calmly getting round to picking them up.
I wanted to come on here to ask for personal experiences with these lizards, are they really that friendly ?? I had a green iguana years ago that was treated very badly and came to me in a mess, she never really got used to being handled and often whipped and went to bite me a fair few times, which was understandable Are the B&Ws similar in temperament to the green iggys ?? When they reach maturaty do their temperaments change ??

Im just worried that I may end up with a large lizard that I cant get near and stressing the animal out too much, the last thing I want is an unhappy stressed tegu.

Get a young argentine and I doubt very much you'll be disappointed in how easily it tames down, especially compared to a rambunctious iguana. They sometimes go a little wild right around sexual maturity, but it's a passing thing, usually only lasting a month or two before reverting back to their mellow selves. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part argentine tegus become so tame it's almost hard to believe until you've got one yourself.

B/Ws are AMAZING reptiles...and I've owned them ALL (reptiles, that is). Hands-down, the most rewarding reptile I've ever kept. If you get a quality, captive bred tegu and follow the advice of the fine folks on here, you will NOT be disappointed.
