hey all i got a baby extreeme giant 2 months ago and hes been wierd since i got him
i dont know if this is wierd but he sleeps like crazy and only gets up when i uncover the cypress mulch from on top of him and then he crawls up on the basking platform and lays down like chin touching

is he sik?

Im really hoping my zero doesnt hibernate. But hes out less and less now so im assuming hes gonna hibernate.

I think the general consensus is that you can alter light schedules and the like to try and fool them into thinking the seasons haven't changed, but at the end of the day the tegu ultimately decides whether or not he wants to go down for the winter.

All tegus are different, they will hibernate when they want to. Now, you can choose not to let them by waking them up. But thats not recommended, and just because you wake them up doesn't mean they will eat or be as active as you want them to be.

First I would like to say congrats on your Tegu.I don't recommend digging him up.It does sound like that he wants to hibernate.Yes, they can hibernate when they are hatchlings.They can hibernate all the way up to the end off March.I got a All American hatchling from Bobby on September 1st and she came out every day for about 1 1/2 weeks and than she went into hibernation.She was born August 2nd 09.
