I've got a poo eater...

For awhile now, my Arg has been trying to eat her poop, not sure what the reason to this is. I try to get the poop out of there as soon as possible, but if I don't, and she notices it, she will try eating it, I'd imagine she's successful part of the time due to me not always home to supervise. Is there a reason she feels the need to eat her own poo? Is there a vitamin deficiency or something, not enough fiber? She absolutely will not touch veggies or fruits, strictly carnivore, is that because she's young?

Just looking for some answers here. :-/ Thanks alot

What does her diet consist of I have had to resort to tricking a carnivorous tegu a few times, what i did was put some telapia, chicken gizzards/hearts and some beef kidneys(mostly smelly meats) and put in a food processor with some fruits and/or veggies just long enough to get it all mixed up, then i would add some cod liver oil to mask any smell of fruit...and this worked well, they ate it with no problems!

Her diet consists of fuzzies baby mice, chicken/turkey liver & gizzards, aswell as hearts. Beef, and beef liver, she's been eating meal worms that are running around the bottom of the feeder bucket, other than that, that's pretty much it.

I think that's what I'm gunna have to start doing, start grinding everything up and shaping it into little pellets or something. How bad is it that she's eating poop? I've heard that it's nothing to worry about from some, and that it's a huge problem from others :S Regardless, it's nasty and needs to stop haha

just as a side note try chicken or turkey if you can (it is a bit more expensive) its healthier for tegus. can you try soaking it for a few before leaving? it might help with a BM and it wont be in it

its enclosure.. sometimes animals eat poop for extra nutrients sometimes the just eat it because its there. it doesnt seem like youre providing a bad diet

Awesome, thanks for the information. I'll try and get some veggies into her, and if it still continues, guess it's just going to be that way.
