Large enclosure

so I'm going to be putting my columbian tegu in an 8x4 coming up and the only thing is he is about 7 months an 20-24 inches long. now I assume they command a lot of territory in the wild and the "too big of a cage" thing isn't correct with most monitors so i was wondering about my tegu. Anyone had experience with putting a smaller tegu in a larger enclosure?

The larger the better! He will definitely use up all the space running around, and will still try to escape to get even more space =)

The "too big a cage" / "starter cage" theories are completely wrong, and are only perpetrated by people trying to sell hatchlings to customers who can't properly care for them. Tegus are generally much more active when they are smaller, and this is the time they really need to have room to run around, explore, and figure things out. There is no such thing as too big a cage. If you are a baller and can afford to build a 100 ft X 100 ft cage w/proper heating + humidity, you should.
