Hello, I have spent a year reading up on tegus, husbandry, and by now am so confused that I figured it was time for interaction because I want to prepare correctly, find the right tegu for my personality, and the right breeder.

I am considering either a blue (size considerations) or a red. My first thoughts are underground reptiles because of the genuine enthusiasm they have for tegus. However, I have been looking at either tegusonly to help a tegu out (also they appear very socialized which surprises me).

Hi- I have experience with Tegusonly. Tegus are beautiful and like any, socialize. My three are from Rodney. Hope this helps.

That's good to know. His seem remarkably calm even being shoved in with a million others. I had read that if they were kept outdoors they would be the opposite.

I was looking at purchasing a blue hatchling only because they are the smallest tegus.

Also I am building a "facility" for him/her with a divider I can put down when he/she eats. We'll see how that comes. Im not the best carpenter.

Thank you for the reply.

You're very welcome. If you go with Rodney, get a female. They remain smaller than males, which can be hosses.

This species is very inquisitive and apt to be friendly. Certainly handleable. I do enjoy them. My three are all intensely curious and gentle/handleable. The male, Oscar, is somewhat aloof as interaction goes. One female, Rosita, is kind of shy, and the other female, Snowflake, is, by any definition, affectionate.
