i have and still do feed meal worms. most lizards love them! they are reportedly high in fat content,so I like to feed insects also. some people just feed turkey, eggs ,mice and beef liver, and im sure thats fine, but I like to feed a more varied diet. Insects, turkey, eggs, liver, worms, mice, and sneak in a little fruit inside the turkey sometimes. (P.S. im not sure what pet store your going to but I have never seen a pet store cheaper than an online insect farm or a reptile expo. I got . i think it was 1000 or close to a thousand meal worms for around $8-$10 at a reptile show last year.and the good thing about meal worms is they keep long time in the fridge.

I think your best bet is to start breeding **** roaches... and giving me your extras :p

Meal Worms are a common "good" food for lizards in general... I do not see why Tegus would not be included...
