I will be getting my new baby on Wednsday and was curious as to if it was key to hibernate its first winter? Were born on July 3rd, so 3 months old, almost 4, I'd be guessing about 12-16 inches already. Going to be working on the permanent enclosure in a month or so, just trying to figure out if it is necessity for him/her to hibernate it's first winter. Will just keep the 12/12 cycle to see if it starts turning out for the winter if so.

It's not, some people say that if they don't hibernate they become infertile though, but I don't know where there's any proof of this. Also, mine's a little over 4 months and a hair over 27 inches, so yours might be a bit bigger. lol.

I like to keep my lights synched with what's going on outside. I have pretty good lighting in the room from windows so I have my tube-light come on a bit after sunrise and go off before sunset. The MVB is only on from 10am-3pm since my GUs are getting a little scarce these days. Just do something like that and follow your tegus lead, they're pretty good at knowing what to do. Good luck and keep us updated.

Sure thing. I'm not really worried about them becoming infertile, as I have zero intention on breeding EVER. But pictures and possible youtube will be up on Wednesday. I'll post when hopefully 'she' arrives.
