My tegu is very aggressive

I just bought my black & white tegu about a month ago and she/he is roughly a year old. He has a missing tail that is quickly growing back. He jumps at the top of his enclosure and he keeps rubbing his nose raw from the screen top. I take him out plenty, but the other day he bit me and now I'm honestly nervous to handle him. How can I make him calm down?

It sounds like his enclosure is too small. How big is it? Many animals, especially reps will be aggressive if that is the case. I am in the process of building mine an enclosure. It was supposed to be done a few weeks after we got her. We got her in April at one year of age. We put her in a temporary "tank" with a screen top until we could get the enclosure built. Well weeks ticked by, and its not good to keep them like that. Plus she was growing fast. But we had no enclosure yet. She was doing exactly what you described and I was freaking out. So we converted a tiny bathroom into a temp place for her. Its all tegu proofed, has a humidifier, huge pan of water to soak in if she wants, blankies, a hide, her lights, everything. We have all the conditions perfect except the humidity. What happens is she will wake up in the morning. And soon she'll start clawing at the screen and rubbing her nose I jump up, run in, and move her to the bathroom before she can hurt her nose. Each night, I place her back into the "Tank" because it has perfect humidity and dirt for her to burrow in. That way she gets her dirt and humidity for 13 hours a day ... and we get our bathroom back (and can air it out etc). We finally have all of our supplies except for lighting to build a new cage/enclosure... and yesterday we freed up a room for one. So now, this weekend building will start. I have no idea how long it will take. But because of work schedules, etc, its going to be 2 weekends at the very very least. So ... the bathroom will be her temp home until then. And becuase I want her to have her dirt and her high humidity, I'll be doing the keeping her in the tank at night thing.
That all said, I'm a brand new owner. I'm not experienced nor do I know enough about tegu's. But I'm sharing what I am doing for a temporary thing to get by during this unforseen circumstance. Also, my gu didnt start doing that with the nose rubbing or screen until she grew a bit, and even a lot of excercise time wasn't enough anymore to keep her from doing what yours is doing.
