I'm looking to buy a 10 month old tegu as the owner does not have the time to look after her but ive been told that she is grumpy and quite scared and skittish, Being that im a beginner with tegus would anybody be able to give me advice on if it is a wise purchase?

Make sure you have enough space to build a large enclosure for it. I'm getting mine next week and just spent the last 3 weeks building the enclosure and getting ready for it.

Might be grumpy because it doesn't get the attention it needs. Probably just needs to be slowly adjusted back to human companionship. But I don't consider myself even remotely knowledgeable on the subject so hopefully someone else will chime in to help.

Rare to unheard of that they won''t tame down, excepting a greatly traumatized one. If you trust the owner, ask first how it was kept. Best case scenario is that it was generally ignored by the owner who was nervous around it. Please post a pic, too.

My guess is if she hasn't calmed down they weren't handling her enough. But as you said your a new owner I honestly would not reccomend it. Hell hath no fury like a pissed of monitor. I have a hathchling golden at work that tears the hell of of me if I don't grab him exactly the right way and he's only 9 inches long lol my lokie is a juvenile and when I first got her she was so strong with the whiping even with being how malnourished she was she was STRONG.
