hi guys! first post here! i have 4 years experience with reps and think im ready for another! i have 1 cwd 2 leopard geckos and 3 bearded dragons. im wandering on what to get next. i think a tegu. im only 15 and getting pa\id £50 a week. i can fit a 6x4x4 in my room. budget is not a case as i will get everything perfect. ive narrowed it down to a columbian b&w or a argentine? i handled a pair of adult columbians which are 3.5ft and they are £350and docile as hell!! but they sell argys for 200? so ideas please?? many thanks mike
ps im selling 2 beardies soon

If you definitely have space and can definitely afford to build an enclosure and spend $60 a month on food, then a tegu is a great choice. Typically the argentines are more docile, less flighty, and easier to tame down. They also grow larger, but if you can do a 6x4x4 that's fine. Be wary when purchasing a hatchling this time of year. Captive bred babies won't be available until the summer.

Edit: Just noticed your currency. Don't know what time of year it is where you're located.

hi thanks for your reply ;). im in england and can afford that feeding in a week! and i was thinking of saving 150 more to get a very 'tame' adult columbians. but they sell argentines for 200 (hatchlings) i was thinking of size, since the columbians are smaller they would be happy in a 6ft rather than a 4-5ft argy in a 6fft?

mike
plus its just the start of breeding season..... i think

The price and upkeep are going to seem high once you get yourself a little bird to spend money on.

But since it's 6x4x4 I think an argentine would be just fine. Although you're right more room is always better. It depends what you're looking for. If you want more ease in taming go with the argentine. If you're up for a little more of a challenge, columbians can become tame, but still behave differently than an argentine (speaking from research, not experience).

I think a colombian would be ok in a 6x4x4. My red gu is in an 8x4x4 and I think that is too small for him. In the next year he is going to get a 10x5x4. Colombians are about 1 1/2 ft shorter than argentines. The cage my guy is in it works but I feel he's cramped, he's in a spare bedroom so he free roams when I am home but he can definetly use a bigger one.
