i just recently got my new baby Argentine B/W tegu from bobby. He is a beautiful 2010 baby. But i was wondering if and how i should be handling him right now since he is so small (if at all)?

All is appreciated :)

YEAH YOU CAN START HANDLING AFTER HE GETS ACCUSTOMED TO HIS NEW HOME, I WOULD GIVE HIM A WEEK OR TWO THEN START WITH HANDLING!

It's really up to the owner when and how to start your handling process(es). I personally don't do much unecessary handling before they reach the 1 year mark. Part of this is because my enclosure is rather large and chasing them around it only adds stress to the lizard. The other part is the tendency for tegus to go a bit wild ~1 year of age for a short period of time.. I just find it easier to handle/tame a tegu that's a bit larger and less easily threatened than a hatchling.

In the end it's up to you but I'd at the least give your GU a couple weeks to settle in and get used to it's new schedule before beginning handling.

Hey i'd give your tegu a few weeks to adjust. Make sure his feeding well and then just try interacting with him the cage if you want to get a head start. I use the same method as JohnMatthew i wait till my tegus are about 2 foot-3 foot mark before i try to really handle them. At this size they start to get more confindence in their size and realize there isn't much that can threaten them.

But bobby has writen a nice little sheet on taming young tegus and tips on how to get started. There is a link to it on the home page. Good luck with the new addition.
