Just actually picked up a Argentinian Tegu and was wondering what other tegu owners feed them ?? Hes a little under 1 1/2 feet. about 18 inches or so, Currently in a 50 gl tank ( I know I know ) wont be in there more than 2 or 3 days as i get the critter condo out of storage and set it up for it.

Anyways was thinking of doing a a substrate like i had for my ackies using sand and topsoil mix with some eco earth for humidity. How does this sound to you guys ??

Also for food i was thinking a Mix between ground turkey with Vitamins and Calcium, and calicium with d3 2 times a week. Eggs hard boiled, Mix in some fruit like strawberries and such and if it doesnt like it i can mix it in the turkey. Not sure what you guys think of mice but was thinking maybe ones or twice every 2 weeks, Also some crikets and meal worms and dubias. You know mixing it up a bit, also thinking of some shrimp and chicken liver and hearts.

Anyways i would be doing a mix of difrent things every other day.

Let me know what you guys think and what you guys do .

Thanks.

Welcome! That's a pretty good substrate. As far as food, whole ground Turkey is better than just grocery store bought. I do some times add chopped up beef liver and cod oil to the turkey. The beef liver has to be given cod oil. I put my ground meat in a ice try and freeze it. Helps with portioning out the food. Add some whole prey. Mice a couple times a week. Mine loves dubia roaches. The meat to shell ratio is better than crickets. They are less stinky and you are less likely to have them get loose and start breeding. I hate bugs but I do think the roaches are easier than crickets. And they don't jump. Hope I answered some questions.

Ok cool gave a bit of ground turkey with chopped strawberrys inside, he loved it. going to set him up with his cage tomorrow, got the plastic dip paint to to spray around the seems to water proof the cage.

Dry lock is great for water proofing cages!

And I forgot to mention fish, they love fresh fish. Salmon, tilapia... etc. No pet store feeder fish.

The chemicals in the water used for the fish are not good for the tegu. I know some breed there own fish or crayfish and they do not use chemicals. In that case it would be fine.
