Hi All!
so happy to find this group!
The hubby and I finally decided to get a reptilian pet and after lots of research we fell in love with the Tegu. Peoples videos and testimonies just confirmed that thats the pet for us.
Now the decision..... which one? The Black and White? Blue? girl, boy....so many questions!
We were thinking on being ready for a "baby" by the end of summer, till then the research begins.
Would love to get any and all info, opinions or experiences from this great group, and if anyone in the Westchester/NYC/NJ/CT area has a Tegu that we could meet to get a better idea of an adult size that would be totally great!

thanks!
angela

You also have red and high white to consider lolol. I was REALLY caught up in whether I should get a male or female. No matter what I always see a bit of difference in the sexes of animals. But everyone said there was none other than "possibly" the males might be more chill as adults. When it came down to it, I picked what I thought was "pretty". So, my son and I thought that the females were shaped pretty. So we leaned that way. I like busy personalities anyway. I already have a dragon that is so chill he is a pet rock. LOL. Also, for us, we didnt "order" a gu like we first wanted. We came across a smaller breeder who had a ton of yearlings at a show. I always prefer to pick in person if I'm able. We picked this one, and then found out she was a girl. But yah, I had a ton of questions too. I still do.

Hi Rebecca! First let me tell you how I love Wolfy's, what a wonderful relationship, and just wow!

I soooo hear you about the boy-girl choices, and my hubby and I are leaning towards the girl also, and the Columbian, I think they are just pretty. Like it was meant to be there is a "show" next month and we usually get picked by the animal, cat, dog, bird, what ever, they seem to just gravitate or follow me around. It will be interesting to see what picks us, LOL! I'm not big on the whole shipping a baby in a box trauma, its hard enough to go to a new place let alone spend a day or two in a box getting shook up on a plane.
Did you have a hard time sexing a girl that young? I would love to see a pic! and if you want email me directly since I don't get updates in my email and I almost didn't see your post, simaf7@yahoo

all the best,
angela

I would love to stay in contact with you!! We can walk through this crazy journey together, right? I've yet to get a "good" photo of my new girl even after these couple of weeks. She is ... active. Very .. active. LOL. Too active for my cell phone camera and I've been lazy about picking up a real camera so I can get shots of her.
I can't believe this but I'm ashamed to say we've yet to name her. I'm horrible at picking names and stress over it. It doesnt help that i have a friend who suggested Bubbles the Destroyer, a husband that suggests Lizzie and other things (he calls everything Brownie, Whitey, Baby, etc), and a son that has a different taste than me. I'll write you via email. See ya!

You could look for the next Repticon in your area and go... sometimes they have adult tegus, and usually have babies you can meet. I'd NOT buy a "baby" from one however, especially if its cheap (35-100 dollars). Those are wild caught. You dont want that. You could also google some exotic pet stores in your area. There should be some up north that way! And call around and ask if they have any for you to meet.
