Hello everyone I am a new member to the forums and I was wondering peoples opinions on Golden Tegus? Ive been debating on getting a tegu and have fallen for the Golden. Any opinions, warnings, tips or anything? I have a huge collection of reptiles and personally spend time with each and everyone of them! Thanks in advance!!

Hi Jacob- hi and welcome. Most members of this forum keep Argentines. Some keep reds, and some Colombians. I think that Colombians are handsome and make hardy display animals. A few members here have done well in interacting with them. Many stories of not, however. Hope that this helps.

Welcome Jacob. I have ZERO personal experience with Columbians but have heard they can be pretty wild and never tame for you. I have only had red and b&w. If you are ok with the possibility of not being able to handle it then I say go for it cause they are beautiful animals. I have to admit though if you find the right b&w like I did with higher contrast, thats the way Id go.

I have an argentine red x blue hybrid and a baby Columbian tegu.

Both are great animals but right now I'm going to talk about the Columbian. I personally think people just hear they are more aggressive than argentines before ever having any reall experience working with them.

My Columbian has never once tail whipped or bitten me or really shown any signs of agression. The biggest difference between her and my argentine is that she is slightly more timid than the argentine was at that age.

Maybe being a captive born makes rhe difference??

Years ago, retics and blood pythons had well-earned reps for being unhanleable. Back then, all were WC. Now, all CB and CBB. Much more docile.
