it doesnt look to cool for tegus. but i know that T-Rex desert snow is 100% digestible. or eco earth. i think that can also be digested.

If you are feeding your tegu in a seperate enclosure use no substrate. As long as you don't put any food inside its main housing area it shouldn't ingest any substrate.

thank you but what do u mean by it doesnt look too cool?

He probably means it doesnt look like the typical out doorsy/wooded look that you would find in an enclosure.

I agree with Jefroka I recommend feeding your GU in a feeding bin with no substrate. and this helps tame your GU by handling them before you feed. Bobby has these 2 videos out.
check them out

guys i appreciate the advice but i have been feeding seperate in a bin since i got her til a few days ago... there are many variables here , i work 12 hour shifts 2 weeks of days 2 weeks of nights 15 days a month.... this schedule makes it difficult to always be home when my tegu wants to eat ... i was ONLY doing feeding bin but she still started eating substrate in front of me for no reason.... even with crickets in there... so i figured it was because she was hungry and my times of offering her food werent good for her so i started putting food in her enclosure a few days ago... and again today i witnessed her eating substrate.... i read all bobbys articles on this site and im trying my absoulute best to make everything best for my tegu... i will keep feeding in a seperate bin like u all say but what do i do when i work 3 twelve hr shifts in a row on night shift and my tegu is burrowed the few hrs im home??? i been putting crickets in there for her in these situations like bobby told me but she still ate the substrate.... i think the best solution to this is to keep feeding in a seperate feeding bin cept crickets and find a substrate that has a low risk to impacting her and when she gets bigger ill go back to cypress mulch.... what do u guys think ???

Anthony, I believe your tegu is eating substrate because you have been feeding crickets in its main quarters and it can smell the remnants. They have an absolutely incredible sense of smell, so a hungry tegu can sense even a hint of food in an enclosure.

What about newspaper for the time being? Have you talked with Bobby about that as an option? I know he keeps his small ones on newspaper for some time. Just give it a comfortable burrow with coco fiber and a nice hide, but no substrate except for newspaper in its basking area.

:-D nobody can help the long hours.. I know you can use newspaper as substrate and provide a humid hide with cypress or moss. get a rountine with your GU. 5 minutes can make difference. the feeding bin will help you out. wish ya luck
