in the wild they eat about 60% veggies, 20% insects, and 20% mice, rats, chicks, etc.

Feeding too much meat, especially fatty meat can cause health issues and obesity and lead to a shorter life span. It is good to give them a lot of variety if they will eat it. All depends on the tegu really when it comes to what they will eat and not eat.

I am sure some other members can provide some additional input about what they feed their tegu. There are quite a few threads regarding this.

yea sticking with leaner meats will be essential. Definitively sounds like you have a good idea of a feeding plan which will develop more as you get to know your gu's feeding habits. It has been a while since I have had a tegu, but from what I remember I fed mine a lot of turkey and fresh fish, and used a food processor to mix egg, veggies, egg shells, & some seedless fruits all within the meat. Getting a good food processor will be really helpful and a good investment. It also saves a lot of time too when preparing their meals.
