Alrighty fellow gu lovers....
My name is Marc
I live in north Florida
I build custom houses
And..... Love tegus

First time I seen a tegu was at a reptile show in orland 2 years ago. And have dedicated my free time to finding out as much as I could about tegus.

I currently have 3 argentine tegus. 2 are Florida wild caughts. And the other is a "black and white & red cross". But I'm not sure. (L to r. Chommper.petrie.fuego

I plan in breeding and adding more tegus to my collection in the future. The weather climate is pretty good for my tegus to be out side. But I have 2 indoor cages

Questions:
Can you just let the tegus do their nature thing when it comes to breeding an layen eggs?
Has anyone seen a difference in outdoor caged and indoor caged tegu behavior?
I switch there food every other meal from ground turkey and beef liver to mice or rat pup. Do I need to give them a reptile vitamin also?

Welcome to the forum!

1. Tegus need to be in good condition to breed, separated after breeding because of the female aggression, and eggs are typically brought inside for incubation.

2. Yes, outdoor tegus can be more active because of temps and sun exposure. They can also be a bit less friendly than their indoor counterparts, but each animal is different.

3. You need to add calcium to any meal without bones at a rate of 1tblspn to 1 pound of meat. I would also add a multivitamin at least once a week if you are not also feeding fruits or vegetables.

Well I decided to bring my gu kids inside. I could even get in their cage with out them trying to get my feet. They have only been back in side for a day and already I see a difference in their attitudes. Back to chin scratches and neck rubs

No problem. :) If you have any specific questions, you can post to the different forum headings and probably get a bit more traffic.
