well i went in to my local reptile store to get some feeders and products when i saw a big male tegu for sale. hes just over 4 feet long, huge jowls and good body weight. the price was 270 dollars for him. i was not satisfied with the cage he was in at the store, it was maybe a 2 by 2 cage. he has some stuck shed in random places and a nostril was plugged with some stuck shed. long story short i asked the employees how long he had been in the store and they said maybe a couple weeks. i was not able to leave that store knowing about his condition and living quarters. i decided to buy him and bring my female tegu a male to hang out with. both seem so happy and unseperable. also both seem to strive for my attention now climbing up my arms when i open the cage. im assuming the male is around maybe 2 to 2 1/2 years old. my female is around a year and a half old. maybe in a couple years i to can try and breed these awsome animals..i have had him now for two weeks and i did get the stuck shed out of the nostril and fed it some beef liver and he is soaking on his own in the pond. he has also eat two 1 month old chickens so things are looking really good for him and her to.

Nice for the tegu. Buth 'm Not in favor of it for such pathetic animals at a pet store to buy. They have now sold the animals and will certainly not hesitate to buy back a tegu to sell . How pathetic it is, I think you better could leave the animal there...

ok i understand what you mean now..i look at it like this.. the tegu was fed good, the tegu is tame as could be so the previous owner of him spent lots of time with him,..but the previous owner may have had some housing problems such as humidity, the hide must have been super small because the scales on his neck are almost rubbed flat, other then some shed problems i dont see any scares on the animal, the vent is clean and eyes are clear...so i had room and decided to care for 1 more tegu and give it a good life with lots of attention. i felt that with my experience with tegus he would be better off with me then someone who wants him for show...the pet stores are all about money......thats it, so i.m.o more than half of all animals sold will not be taken care of correcly and either die or escape from careless keepers..i do disagree with the reptile shop taking in the animal for re-sale if they cant house the animal correcly but maybe they thought the animal would be a quick sale or maybe felt as i did about it, who knows. but if we can help animals have a good life and dedicate ourselves to them then we should right?...

Sorry for my bad english ;) . But then it is not really a rescue?
Furthermore, I understand your story well, and I think especially you're right in that particular inpulsive purchases by incompetent people nothing is. In any case much fun whit him, and i look forward to photos.

i think anything thats been dumped off to be cared for by anyone eles other than the original owner is a rescue.
