Hi, I am new to tegus but have beardies and had a turtle, and getting leopord gekos lol, and want to get a gu i have read up on stuff and have some plans for a cage, i want to get it from Bobby next season (i live in fl what part do you live in?) but have some q's

would an 8'x6'x4' be ok? itll be indoors with a window obove to add some extra natrual uv (i will have it oppened and yes it is to hight to get out)

also i plan on wood, what type of wood should i use? i also will put the stuff that is in the inside of bath tubs in and around the inside so itll be pretty water tight

i know substrate i can use cypress mulch wich is no problem i will have an under ground hide thing for them for hybernation and everything

i have some other stuff in mind for the top and all
would pieces of like 2x2 sticking in like //// along the top work with like a small chicken wire strung across it?

thank you all for help and replys

8x6x4 is a good size cage, but if its 4' high you will need to mount your uv bulbs lower inside the cage or create an elevated basking site about 12" from the uv bulb. if your using natral unfiltered sunlight you should be ok . chicken wire top enforced with wood beams will work too, if the cage is 4' tall. if you elevate your basking site the tegu might get stuck in the wire if he can reach the top.

Welcome to tegutalk. There's great information here and great people to answer just about anything. The enclosure sounds awesome. You mentioned your enclosure will be inside and that you are going to have an opening on the top for extra uv, so I'm assuming you will have lighting as well. Everything I have read says uv rays can't pass through windows. Just in case that is where the extra uv will be coming from. FYI, and once again welcome
