Hello everyone, although i am new to tegus.. I have a golden tegus and not sure of age but i am assuming he is maybe near a year old.. I must said they are unpredictable but fun and they are very adventures and love to roam. However i don't allow the roaming just yet. Because he is still small and I don't want he getting into tight situations. I brought him a few weeks ago at the reptile expo in my area, the breeder told me he got caught in a door and dropped his tail 3 different times in that one time, if that makes any since but that's what I was told.. Working with this tegu is a great challenge and people say golden tegus have a bad rap but I just think people don't want to put in the work to work with them.. But only time will tell. My golden tegu seems a little stressed due to him dropping his tail and moved into a new home.. I custom built a 4x2x2 and i also designed the background enclosure setup.. Alos i use one 45-50 watt halogen flood light and one 10.0 uvb light with topsoil and sand substrate with moss and a hidebox with moss as well as a hideout.. Basking spot temps 120F, hot side 90F, cool side 80F night time temps reach 70-80F, Also i built custom made tunnels using the substrate..Humidity at 70-80%... Oh yes, my golden tegu name is Thor......
