Hi there, we have just rehomed a 2 year old black and white tegu called Izzy. She is beautiful and friendly and we are in love with her...however we've had her 3 weeks now and she seems to be hiding most of the time when she's in her viv and when she's out she's trying to find somewhere to hide. Also she's eaten some fruit and one chick but now she won't eat anything. Poops are random and more urates than anything else.
Is this normal settling in or should I be worried? Thanks

A little hard to tell. What's the temps in her hide and the range in her cage??

Under the best of circumstances will take some time for these intelligent creatures of habit to get used to new digs.

My female tegu is close in age to yours. I have had her a month. It took her a couple of weeks to settle in and shes just now getting to where she eats normally. Temps are important for the warm side. Mine stays at around 98 during the day time and early 80s on the cool side. Mine still hides a lot but will come out from time to time to explore. As far as eating check temps and try adding some egg or banana to the food to see if she seems interested. Mine started eating more when she found a bullfrog in the yard. What are you feeding and how often?

I take a package of ground turkey, mix it with a little moistened tortoise food (pellet type) mix in 1/2 a banana, 1/4 papaya and about 1/3 of a small jar of calcium powder. I will on occasion mix in 1 raw egg. I also take mine out in the yard almost every day to get some sun (summer average is around 98 here). That seemed to help her morale a lot. Mine is a wild caught from florida. She occasionally eats a bullfrog or a toad in the yard as well. I think having some of her behavior from the wild (such as hunting frogs) has helped her tremendously. She will now walk to me when we are outside and sit next to me for a while until she decides to hunt or poop.

I also increased her day uvb light to 13 hours a day. She may be trying to go into brumation so increase her daytime light some. I also reduced the substrate amount in her cage for 3 weeks so she couldn't cover her whole body, just most of it. This didn't stress her out and she was able to get more uvb so she would realize its not brumation time yet. If she doesn't start eating in a few days it might be a good idea to take her to the vet so they can rule out an impaction.
