Hi, I'm Chris. I just purchased my first pair of Tegus the other day. They're a pair of about two to three month old Colombian Tegus. Dexter is the only one with a name at the moment. His sibling is staying put beneath the substrate right now and I'm severely lacking in inspiration. These are a few pictures of my enclosure as it is right now. Its 3ft x 1 1/2 feet x 1 1/3 feet. Any criticism or advice is welcome.

Hi coward526. Welcome to the forum. Start working on a bigger cage. They grow fast. With 2, you want to give them room in case they decide they are not fond of each other. I would put in 2 hides also.

Hows keeping the humidity up in a glass tank like that?

It's not easy. I'm going to have to put some saran wrap on half the cage to keep it in. As to the bigger tank, yeah this is purely temporary. By the time I have to build their permanent enclosure I'll be in a different apartment.

Welcome to the site :) and congrats on the new gus.
Two things or three, I would reccomend... one, covering the two sides and rear glass so they don‘t try to run through it and possibly hurt themselves when spooked. Two use something nonflammable like foil, to help keep in humidity around the light since they require high basking temps.
Three, I don‘t know what you‘re using to measure temps but temp gun comes in handy. I don‘t know what readings you might get under the light or even just for regular temps with an enclosure that size, it maybe difficult to properly maintain hot, cool side and basking temps.

It is common for them to hide under the substrate. They are the shier of the species and babies at that. :)

i recently put a dirt like bedding in my tegus tank and made a part of it filled with water it keeps the humidity high and he seems to like it columbians like water but the water has to be shallow enough for them to be able to stand in it and i dont know if you have a uv light but its a nessecity with these guys because their bones could grow wrong which would result in problems moving when they are older
