Not Eating

My two month old B&W hasn't eaten since I brought him home (last Sunday) and all he does is hide... I've offered him turkey, lean beef, chicken heart (which he ate a couple bites of the first day and then nothing), gizzards, fuzzies, pinkies, crickets, superworms and egg. No interest in anything. I've mixed some of the ground meat with cod liver oil and he seemed slightly interested but ignored it.

What gives. Should I just leave him completely alone with no contact for two weeks or keep offering him food. I hate wasting food.

For those who don't know, I had in imported Red who hid constantly and ate rarely for almost TWO YEARS. I rehomed her and aquired a captive baby who was eating perfectly at the breeders... Now he's hiding and not eating. I'm so upset and depressed. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't know why tegus and other lizards seem to hate me.

His ambient temperature on the warm side is in the mid 80s, his cool side is in the mid 70s and his basking spot is 101-104F. He's on coco husk chips, ecoearth and sphagnum moss. As far as I know, he was only offered a turkey mixture at the breeders which he ate fine. He's never had whole prey before. I've offered both and he's ignored both.

I don't know what to do. I always hear about how voracious they are when it comes to food and now I've had two who seem less than thrilled when offered it.

Don't take everything so personal, if you heard about how voracious their appetite is then you should have also heard and or read about how some are not the same. As well as the fact that this time of year affects their appetite since they may start to slow down and eat less in preparation to brumate or hibernate.

Neither of which have any thing to do with you personally.

As long as it's healthy has enough fat reserves (no parasites or anything) and is maintaining a proper weight, it's really not anything to worry about. They can go months with out eating food. Leave it alone for a while and see what it does, it will let you know when it's hungry and looking for food. Or it will continue to not eat and hibernate for a while, either way watch what happens and adjust accordingly

Okay, I'll try... lol

I'm so nervous because not only of my last tegu but a BTS that I had who randomly ended up slowing down, quit eating, hid constantly and then passed away. Turned out it had a bone deformity from birth. These lizards have beat up my self confidence. lol
