Hey everyone hoping you guys can help me out!! I want to purchase another tegu black and white argentine that's at a reptile store but there seems to be a problem with her. She twitches and now she's developed this weird my tongue won't go in my mouth properly and she seems to struggle with walking. She's getting plenty of uvb and all her food is dusted with crickets her fellow siblings are all 100% healthy does anyone know what it could be? Do you think what she has is fatal? I want to adopt her for the mere fact that I feel bad and just want to provide her with love and attention if her days are numbered! On a side note I've been watching her growth for the past few weeks and she's gotten chunky and has shed multiple times.

Thanks for the help

Sounds entirely like nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism and I'm betting the other "100% healthy" siblings are actually "borderline healthy". Caught early enough, and if the underlying cause is not serious, at this stage it is easily reversible. However, if it is a different underlying cause than just nutrition, it might be a lot harder to correct. Check my posts in this thread

and it will indicate what I mean by how it can still be MBD but not exactly related to nutrition.

Interesting. None of the other siblings exhibit these same symptoms? How long has she been acting this way? How is her appetite? Would you be able to have a vet take a look at her?

Just her which is weird she's been like this for maybe 3 weeks now but she has really good days where u can't tell and bad days where you really see the twitching and the limited mobility. Her appetite is great though she's gaining weight and growing! I gave her a pinkie yesterday that I had to cut in half because she struggled to eat it (tongue or jaw issue not sure.) I haven't adopted her yet they did however offer her for $100 instead of $250 I just don't want extreme medical bills with her since I do have 2 other tegus

Ok guys here are some updated photos of "Penny" any suggestions as to what is going on? Note her mouth it doesn't close properly and her tongue looks like it doesn't fit in her mouth.

My guy does the same thing when he is out of his cage. I think it is done when stressed, I could be wrong but his tongue fits perfectly fine when in the cage

It makes me really happy to see people like you @Allie.Lauren thank you for caring for a soul who's having issues. Good to know there's still people like you in the world.

Also, try the DIY eggshell calcium, I posted a thread on it a few days back, since I've been adding that instead of the other calcium supplements, Jagger's been much more active. And they love it since it's made from eggshells ;)
