Now that my husband is deployed, it's just me and Ammy, and we've been working on socializing and getting used to the harness. I've gotten over my fear of her completely, and in response, she's gotten comfortable with me. I've gotten her to the point where she lays on my shoulder and just lets me go about my day.

Today, it was a lovely warm day, so we went outside, and she met some neighborhood children. She did just fine right up until one of them screamed, then she decided she had had enough and attempted to burrow into my hair.

But she did wonderfully with being social, and little by little, I'm getting her to the point where she lets me handle her freely. I'm still amazed at how laid-back she is. She just finds herself a warm spot of grass, sprawls out, and there she stays for however long she wants, just being lazy grass lizard.

Now if I can just start getting her to quit crapping on the good carpet and at least go on the linoleum! lol.

One final thing to share, I got video of her eating today. She decided to let me know that she wanted food RIGHT NOW so she actually tore open a trashbag and scattered trash everywhere. So while I was cleaning up, I gave her the food she was hunting for. This time, just a can of sardines (rare treat, she goes nuts over anything fish).

That's awesome. Good stuff and nice looking tegu you have there.

"Now if I can just start getting her to quit crapping on the good carpet and at least go on the linoleum! lol."

One thing you can try:

Let her warm up (wherever that might be) and when she needs to go (looking at her size maybe 30-45 min of basking under her lamp), she should get antsy and start moving around a lot...That's the que to look for for...

When that happens, just grab her and place her in the tub with a couple inches of warm water...She should go pretty quickly.

You can do this everyday like clockwork once you see her mannerisms after warming up and get used to them.

I have both my juvies doing this. Takes about 15 min for them to warm up and potty.

Then, for us, it's more lamp time and feeding.

Good luck.

Been trying to get Ammy to do the bathtub routine, but she wants nothing to do with that. Never fails. Stick her in the tub in warm water for up to an hour...the moment she comes out, she heads for the carpet, then does her business. Damned smart lizard.

I still just never cease to be amazed at how smart tegus are. Smart, and ornery!
