I thought they looked very healthy too. People are saying they might have parasites but they sure do look healthy. They still don't like to be held yet but I hope I'm gaining their trust more everyday. I've noticed they can stink a cage up pretty quick, I have to change the cypress mulch like every other day! Oh I forgot to mention that one of them was free. Thanks to LLLreptile.
I know. I read the story on how you got the other one for free . How does the poop look like ? Is it runny or a normal solid stool ? Does the poop stink like normal poop or very sour ? What did you feed them ? The reason why I'm asking all this is because if they have parasite problems they would have a very sour smelling and runny stool. Unless you just feed them some eggs or fish.
Do you spot clean the enclosure every day ? That would help with the enclosure not smelling so bad. If the enclosure is big enough I would put a small clean cat litter bin in there with some luke warm/ warm water. Most of my Tegus like to soak in there and then poop in there after a while. That keeps the mulch clean.
Have you tried the T-shirt trick ? I put my Tegus ( when they were still small and now with my two hatchlings ) in between two shirts and let them hang out in there. Since you are the hiding place now and it's warm in there they will feel save in there. They also get to smell you and this also helps for them to get used to you faster. This trick worked very well with all of my Tegus.

I'll try the t-shirt thing when I put them in their new enclosure. Right now one of my t-shirts would take up 50% of their cage. What they are living in temporarily is gonna be their future feeding bin. I'm building a 4'x4'x1.5' enclosure now that is going to be their home for like the next 8 months or so. They are gobbling down ground turkey supplemented w/ reptocal everyday.
Now that you mention it, their poop is runny 75% of the time and does stink very bad. I want to purchase that natural parasite medicine from LLLreptile for 250g and less reptiles. I hope they are not carrying parasites.
They are adorable. I can see why you don't want to give one up.
I had two Argentine B/W Tegus that aren't from the states (because non of the breeders will ship to Europe) and non of them had parasites. Sadly one died of MBD. I don't know why, the other three that where imported at the same time are very healthy. But maybe they where treated for parasites before I got them. I don't know.
awe they are sooooo adorable, i remember when my tegus were small like that lol, i cant wait until thos varnyard babys start hatching i gotta get another one hehehe, i gotta bad case of tegu fever lol!
I would get them checked from a vet to make sure they even have a parasite problem and not something else. I also would make sure to give them the right dosage of the meds if you have to give them some.
I don't use the T-shirt trick that you are thinking of. I don't put a shirt inside the enclosure. I posted a link to a video I made on how I do my T-shirt trick. Good luck with them.
