Well i got my new tegu this morning and named her fluffy.. .. She sat in my hand for 3-5 minutes and ate about a teaspoon of turkey.. my temps and humidity is good.. im wondering if its too much subtrate and too much room.. right now the tank is 4x3x3. i have about 6-8 inches of substrate.. i do have a seperater that could block out the rest of the tank.. i just dont want to go digging through the tank and take her out of a burrow. Ill let her be tonight and see if she desides to come out tomorrow...its sad hearing about everyone's tegu they got and how they are out and about..

Robert... let us know if she comes out today...

From a hatchling... mine was kept in a 4' x 2' x 2' cage... When smaller you may want to use less substrate making them rely on hiding under structures more and avoiding deep burrowing. This will make it much easier for you to find her if she's being bashful. I rarely dug through my muclch looking for mine as I was terrified I'd break a leg or tail doing so.

The ecperience of shipping has got to be rough on a baby Tegu. It doesn't suprise me that it takes them a day or two to calm down and gain comfort. Naturally some will deal with it better than others. Your is probably naturally more intelligent and therefore understood the need for concern better than most ;)

I would let him have all the space (dont divide the tank) you could reduce the amount of substrate as long as he/she can still hide. And dont dig him up when he's hiding.once he gets used to you he wont hide as often. sometimes mine comes up from under the mulch when he hears me because he knows: ITS TIME TO EAT!

yeah.. i still let him have all the space..when i put him in his feeding bin i took out a bunch of substrate.. now im not so worried i wont know if he is in there or not. I know where his burrow now is.. he went in there yesterday at the end of the day when i was sitting by his cage.. he has it set up on the opposite side of the tank then his enclosure and its under the basking stone slab. I figure he knows to get up once it starts to warm up.. smart tegu..
