your tegus are much to young yet to worry about them breeding. reds can breed at around 2 years old, black and whites around 3 years old. but i have heard of some tegu owners having blk and whites breed around 2 years old but some what uncommon. also your (75 gallon tank) is getting to be a problem im sure for two tegus of that size. please i hope your going to find something MUCH bigger for two tegus VERY VERY soon.

yes i wrote im getting a bigger enclosure for them soon but a 15 inch and 20 inch tegu in a 4 by 1 and a half tank is not big enough for that size? thats in comparison wise like having a 48 inch tegu in a 9 foot by 3 foot tank... thanks for the info

When we read suggestions of a 4Ã?¢ââ??‰â??¢ x 8Ã?¢ââ??‰â??¢ for a 4Ã?¢ââ??‰â??¢ (adult) male TeguÃ?¢ââ??¬Ã?¦

This one could logically convert this suggestion into a ration of the Tegus length by double itÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢s lengthÃ?¢ââ??¬Ã?¦

In the case of an 18Ã?¢ââ??¬Ã? Tegu this would be a 1.5Ã?¢ââ??‰â??¢ x 3Ã?¢ââ??‰â??¢ tankÃ?¢ââ??¬Ã?¦ Since Anthony is using a 1.5Ã?¢ââ??‰â??¢ x 4Ã?¢ââ??‰â??¢ tank, I do not think it would be fair to suggest that this is a problemÃ?¢ââ??¬Ã?¦

Instead I think it would be wise to remind Anthony how rapidly Tegus grow when they wake up from hibernation/bermation and that although his Tegus are likely just fine for the time being, they will be needing a bigger cage shortly after waking up / becoming active this spring.

As to the breeding questionÃ?¢ââ??¬Ã?¦ from what IÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢ve read (thus read it with a grain of salt)Ã?¢ââ??¬Ã?¦

Males can impregnate a female at two years old and females can become pregnant at 3 years old.

Since you got to see my girl grow like a darn weed, I think you have an idea of what to expect this coming summer. You were excited about getting a big fat lizard, and now youÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢re there :p My girl is a hair over 36Ã?¢ââ??¬Ã? and almost 5 lbs. IÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢m very curious as to whether or not sheÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢s going to put on any additional length this summer. Part of me hopes so, part of me hopes not.

IÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢ll be back in town this spring hunting work again. When I get back IÃ?¢ââ??‰â??¢d love to swing by and see your Tegus. Good luck on converting that closet, I think you could pull it off without causing any damage.
