Im getting a yearling female B&W Tegu on sunday. Its gonna be my first tegu ive ever had. When i pick it up its pretty squirmish but then calms down after 5 minutes. If I handle it every day for about 15 minutes will it calm down or will it always be like that?

In time with handling your tegu will calm down.

It's perfectly natural for your Tegu to "fear the unknown"...

As time moves forward and your Tegu learns that you are not a threat, he will not only stop running from you, but he will likely learn to appreciate your attention.

In the early stages it's quite important that you do not harm or scare your Tegu. I started by "hanging out" with my hands/arms in his cage a lot... as he grew comfortable with that I began petting him and having him walk/stand on my hands/arms... then I began 'holding' him outside the enclosure and letting him (controlled) free roam...

Your Tegu will be much more comfortable "standing on you" as opposed to being "held by you". It's a subtle difference but one that means a lot to your Tegu.

I had a specific table that I put a towel on and let him free roam on that table often.

It is very natural for a Tegu to become less 'flighty' as he gets larger. He will also be easier to keep track of, making free roaming much much easier with a large Tegu.
