Questions from a newbie

On Friday I am getting a brand spanking new (well, new to me) tegu from Rodney at TegusOnly. To say I am excited would be understating it just a bit. However I have a few questions I hope someone can help me with. I am having a 8x4x4 enclosure built, but until it's done I have a choice between a 40 gallon breeder tank with the doors in the front and wider front to back, or a 55 gallon tank which is longer by about a foot. I have a 150 watt basking bulb, a reptisun 10 uvb fixture, a CHE, a cave, eco earth, a hygrometer, etc... pretty much everything except the bigger enclosure. My question is, which tank? If someone could give me some advice before Friday that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Go with whatever has more surface area, height is less important.
Ok, thanks. I think they are very close in surface area, so I might as well go with the 40 gallon breeder tank as it opens in the front and I won't have to reach down and scoop him out. Plus it gives him more room to turn around.

Turnaround room is important, so is not grabbing from above like a hawk!

Also, Beautiful tegu. Congrats to you.

Thank you! He actually got here today (a day early) and he looks just as good as his pic! On Rodney's advice I am leaving him along for a day in his tank, but I did put some food and water in there just in case. He doesn't seem all that interested in the food but I won't take it out till tomorrow so I don't bother him. Rodney did say he was in the midst of brumating so he probably wouldn't eat much, but I wonder if I should put a little food in there every 2 or 3 days anyway.

Yes, I would. He'll need about one week to settle in then depending on how much longer he needs to sleep, he'll come out on a regular-ish schedule.
