I was on the site a few years ago when I had a black and white Columbian. Unfortunately my tank was not sealed and he got out and the cats killed him. Anyways about two weeks ago I bought a red tegu. Currently I have him in a 40 I know its to small and I feel bad. But I just finished his 70inx30inx36in enclosure yesterday. I love these animals and I am so glad I finally got one with a sealed enviroment. I've been getting mixed recomendations for basking spots. I have him at about 98° in the 40 im going to ramp it up to 105° when i finish the interior of his new enclosure. Any recommendations or advice relating to anything would be much appreciated. I feed him a veggie meatball which includes tilapia, chicken liver, chicken breast, ground pork, and kale. I also have been feeding various fruits strawberries, mango, papaya, grapes ( he loves grapes). Also if you can confirm his species I'd appreciate it. He is red but still has a good amount of black in him.

Sorry about your last tegu. This one's a beaut. Provide 110-115F basking site. 80sF in the middle, hide at other end of mid-upper70sF.
