Rides and visits with my tegu

I love taking my big bearded dragon everywhere. Hes so well adjusted, curious, never stressed. But of course that species has a laid back disposition anyway. When I got my tegu, I got excited at the thought of taking him places. The park. Car rides. Trips to Petsmart. Home Depot trips (lol, they are so cool about allowing all kinds of pets in). And so on. Someone who used to have tegus said to be careful of that because they can stress? And you'd know not it cause they can shut down?

So can people offer their experience here regarding this subject?

Well Biggin is a huge baby and lets screaming kids run at him and rub all over him with no problem. I'd say it really depends on your tegu's personality. I've seen some that freak out around lots of sounds and movement. My suggestion would be to take it slow, try him just around you and others, see how he is around other pets, try road sounds, just don't rush him into a situation where it's sensor overload all at once if he's never been exposed to those things..

Thank you for the advice. Very slow. :) it'll be a while before I can truly start "training" because she is still a nervous wreck and not 100% tame for me yet. She dashes at the sound of a pin dropping for some reason. And I have to really work hard on that. So, if she develops a confident personality where she isnt' spooked and acts fine going out it should be okay right?

I'd be careful about doing this with your tegu and introduce him VERY slowly to this type of activity if you choose to do so. I know I see tegus at reptile shows and such that are very tame and chill and not disturbed by a lot of activity but I know it took a lot of time and patience for them to be OK with it. Even though they seem OK you just never know how they're reacting internally...

The whole internal and not showing if they are truly stressed or not is what worried me. Okay. I'll introduce her slowly. And I mean inch by ince over the next couple years. see how it goes.

I was lucky with Biggin, he's been the way he is today from day one.. He's never been aggresive at all. I would for sure respect their wishes and not pressure them into any situation you know they are not going to like.
