i had one, he was just a baby. he would open his mouth at me when ever i would take him out, but he would never bite me. they grow out of this though if handled regularly and as long as they dont learn to associate you with food. my friend has an adult sav and she is soooo sweet, you can even cuddle with her. i have one ordered, its supposed to get here tmw :-D

Yes, very sweet. I started working at a bird store back in December of '08 and I fell in love with him and had to take him home.

post pics when you get your sav!- i bet you are excited!! is it male or a female, and (if you don't mind me asking) where did you order it from? i am trying to find a good breeder to possibly buy a CBB from, (most that i have seen are WC, or CH.)

I've got a year old sav and he's a great pet. He has been roaming around the house all day. One thing I can't stress enough is, feed your monitor outside the enclosure. I made the mistake of feeding him inside often and he would always follow my hand when I would try to take him out or pet him, be it he was even a little hungry. He also bit my fist as it was closed once but he let go quick. I've been feeding him outside the tank now and he has calmed down a lot.

Savs are beautiful animals... I want to get a baby but I have to watch the number of animals I take in. College in three years... And I definitely can't take two enormous lizards with me. Pretty sure I can take the snakes, though. :fc

same here. I have to cut down on what I get until I get my own place, which will be a while from now.

As far as I know, dorms don't allow reptiles... That's why I'll probably end up renting an apartment with some roommates.

Sav's can be great, Ive delt with monitors for over 10 years, I just started getting into Tegus this year. I will say, Sav's will require alot more repetition in handling, the majority of monitors ive owned have always had defensive atitudes, probably not as a hatchling, but after a few weeks (1st month or 2) youll start seeing them change, the temperment will become defensive, skittish, flighty,, Almost as if they will test you.. Huffing puffing up, hissing, as stated above might open their mouth, Ive rarely been bitten by a baby Sav, whipped yes, alot, but their scared easily, that surely doesnt make them a bad animal, you just need to work with them everyday, several times a day if possible, If given the proper time and effort, these lil guys will become great pets, and do tame nicely. If you decide to get one do your homework on the requirements, specially their diet. The diet is something I cant stress enough, these guys are eating machines and tend to become over weight very fast.

Goodluck, and remember you get what you put into the animal, these lil guys are great.
