savannah nail trimming.

my little fatalis' nails are very sharp id like to trim them to i dont end up with an infection.im not to sure how to cut them tho.anyone have some advice?

If you can hang on to her try taking just the tip off that`s the sharp part .. Other wise if you can see the Quick on at least one claw it will give you an idea .. It seems like whenever you do claws one bleeds . I use a powder that stops it .. Not having the powder wouldn`t stop me tho ..

You just want to take off the VERY tip, otherwise you risk hurting the animal and making it harder to do when you have to do it again. You can use regular nail clippers but cut sideways, otherwise the nail can split.

You can use flour if you do hit the nerve and make it bleed. You don't need the special styptic powder, though it works better.

thanks i think i have some nail clippers that are small enough.haha she doesnt really fuss that much when im holding her she just holds on to my hand and wont let go lol.

My enclosure is coated with Drylok, which gives it a rough rock like surface. My tegu digs at it all the time. The Drylok (thus far) hasn't shown a bit of wear and my Tegus nails stay rounded...
