So instead of making tons and tons of new threads everytime I have a question, I'm going to try to keep this one for my savy. This way its all in one place if I need to look back and I'm not flooding the forum.. I feel like I tend to do that..

I found a guys youtube channel, hes got some great looking savys. In his videos hes said that hes always hand fed them, they've never bitten him and he says its helped the taming process... I know there are a few of us who have savys.. Do any of you feed them by hand?
I personally do not feed my savy by hand, thats not to say I would never try it. Feeding it out of a little dish or putting it into a 40 gal for incests seems to be working great for us. My savy is super mellow and easy going, its the most mellow out of my 3 lizards (its eating properly and the temps are correct, its just mellow).

I occasionally hand feed mine. He's pretty chill, never tries to bite me. Although he isn't too nice around other people. I personally think that hand feeding doesn't cause too much aggression. some are just born mean.

Its so weird to me that some people have problems with their savys.. Well it makes sense but mine is so calm and easy going. It hissed at me once when it was still under a ft. but thats the only fear/aggression its shown in the 4 months I've had it.. It seems pretty mellow around other people, none of my family members have tried to hold it but it will let them pet it.

What kinds of things do you hand feed it? Rodents, bugs, other stuff?

Oh and how old are yours? Mines about 9ish months

Mine's a little booger. he's a little pastel male sav.

I've had him going on two months now, and read all the sites I can that take a less invasive approach to handling....and I"m STILL at square one with him.

I'm halfway tempted just to sell him and figure maybe he'd do better with someone else.

o0o0o do you have any pics of it?
From what I've read there are a few that just don't tame down nicely. Hopefully you can get yours to start to mellow down. Is it pretty young still?

Today I let my savy loose in the spare room for the first time. S/he did really well! Nervous at first, out in a big open space lol. But once it got moving it did great, when it was time to go back in the tank I tried to pick it up and it started hissing :-/. I guess it wasn't ready to go back in its tank! I'll have to try it out some more.
I also had to put a blanket over my beardies tank, as soon as he saw the savy he FLIPPED. I didn't realize beardies had t(That was the second time its ever hissed at me lol) hat great of vision.. Anyway, here are a couple pics and if you want to, check out my youtube page theres a video of some of todays roaming. As a size reference, the shoe in one of the pictures is my boyfriends, its a size 11. Take care!

Oh also, in one of the videos it did squeeze itself under a closet door, it was fine, I opened the door and it came back out and kept exploring. The door to the room doesn't have a gap large enough for it to squeeze through, just that closet door.. I'll need to shove a blanket there next time.

lucky, mine has been with me for 7 or 8 months, and he's terrified of anything that moves or makes noise... If I could send you a pic right now, you'd see him hiding under a bag. He isn't terribly social or curious even. He immediately hides when I let him out to roam.. In very difficult places too. I feed him off of a fork and when I take him out now, in hopes that he will associate me being around or getting taken out as a positive thing. Maybe a little progress so far... He'll hiss a bit, never has tried to bite, but it's a bit nerve racking when he bunches up, puffs out and starts making a ruckus at you. It's odd, I've never tried to restrain him or anything, but he was a rescue too :/

I've had mine since november. S/he was handled a lot before I got it (it was about 6 months old). It took a good 5-10 minutes before it really got going. I'm not sure if it was the floor or what but it layed on a t-shirt for a bit before moving around. I'm sure if there was more furniture in there he would have tried to hide more. We recently moved so the only thing in that room are my beardie, savy and hedgehog cages. No real furniture or anything yet lol.
Before we moved I would let it roam around on my bed a little bit, its still pretty young so it had plenty of room to roam the bed. I have a few old blankets that my tegu and savy like to hide under. My tegu has one in his little den. lol.
I just recently started feeding mine off utensils and holding dishes up to it. It seems to have started helping it mellow a little bit more. I had seen a guy on youtube that feeds all his monitors that way and it seems to be working very well for him.
The first time mine hissed was when I first got it 5 months ago lol it was a lot louder and more intimidating this time! It's never tried to bite either, it just puffed and hissed.
I too try not to restrain mine, I'll hold it for a bit and once it starts to squirm more I'll let it either re-adjust or just hang out on my lap. I know some people have said to not let them down when they fidget like that but to me savys seem similar to tegus (or at least mine, maybe its the age) in that they would rather be pet and able to roam then held in one spot for too long. I don't blame 'em!
