So I have a juvenile Argentine red tegu that I'm trying to socialize.
I've kept reptiles for over 10 years (Boas, monitors, iguanas and others), but none that need socialization.
My problem is whenever I handle my gu, she seems skittish. She doesn't bite, but squirms about when being handled (especially when I'm walking with her).
I've taken steps to make her not afraid of me (e.g. opening the cage slowly, not unburrowing her, introducing her food when she's burrowed to prevent her from associating me with food, etc...).
The only things I can think of that may tick her off is the walking and when I mist her cage. The cage is filled with coco coir, which I mist daily to provide a moist environment. If she's not burrowed she hates the misting.
Should I invest in an automatic reptile humidifier? Are juvenile tegus normally this anxious about being held?
