i was wondering does anyone's tegu still shake their rodents even if there already dead? nero still shakes rodents pretty wildly even though she has never been fed live( exept the one time she knocked the mouse tub over and got them) when he was smaller and i fed em pinkies he didnt do this it wasnt til he got started on the adult rodents. i dont think the size is a problem seeing as though he is closing in on 4' and i feed small rats. any thoughts?

My girl is 1.75 years old...

The only live food she has ever eaten is live fish (2~4") which she did not shake...

Her primary diet has been ground Turkey and thawed/frozen hairless mice... She mildly -to- moderately shakes the mice every time she eats one.

Lately I've been freezing ground Turkey in 1/10th lb chunks. Each chunk is put in a sandwhich bag and then put in the freezer. When it's time to feed her I drop the bag in a cup of hot water (just like I do the mice) to thaw it. This makes a little ground Turkey football that is raw but slightly warm.

Recently she has started shaking the Turkey footballs when she eats them... again mildly to moderately...

When I was a teenager (20 years ago) I had a Golden Tegu (Columbian) that ate live mice and would shake them until the head ripped off. He would gobble down the head then go looking for the body.

I think all tegu's are different in there own ways,I have 4 GU's 3 Arg.& 1 Col. & they are all different in eating, personality, temperment. my big girl demolishes her food off the plate but goes slow & almost gentle with rodents. And my columbian who are usually maniacs eats like a mouse small bites & takes 20 min. to finish a meal.I wouldnt worry about it,I know people that eat like there food is still alive.
