Strange behavior

I just noticed that my tegu has started to look for an escape in his tank. He goes back and forth and digging away in corners. When i open the lid he comes up and leaps out of the tank and right up on me.

He's in a 30 gallon right now and I was wondering if it might be because he's out grown that tank already.

Depending on his size that could be it but tegus are also usually extremely active lizards..and smart so make sure you have it well sealed. You might also just feel like getting it a bigger cage even if doesn't "need" it yet. I have both my 18"s in my 8'x4'x4' and its useful because I don't need to buy/make a bigger cage again until I move out or just feel like it.

The tegu could also just be hungry and is foraging, if your not already just let it eat as much as it wants when you feed it.
