Taming while going through Puberty

my male does not like to be messed with, he puffs up and even lunges at me I don't really mind, but I know it stresses him out. My question is should I work with him now or wait till he goes through his pubescent stage?

Imo backing off isn't going to help down the road. He may even regress if you don't keep working with him.

I would keep working with him also. Have you tried putting a shirt with your scent in his cage? This will let him get used to your scent when you are not around and will make him more relaxed when you are around. Something to try if you haven't.
