Tegu ate mulch

My extreme giant hatchling ate a piece of mulch. I caught him with just the end disappearing into his mouth. It seemed like a thin strip. I tried earlier to feed him outside his cage, but he was too nervous to eat there, so I had to put the food on a plate inside his cage for him to eat it. I will be removing the mulch and replacing with coconut bedding. I'll try to feed him in another container again. Will he be able to pass the strip of mulch? Anyone else having this problem?

Keep an eye on him. Mine have eaten mulch and passed it with no problem. It sound slike it was just one of those little pieces that kind of get stuck in there at feeding time.

I became frantic when I first started with Gu's and mine ate mulch. I fed him apples and Plums the next three or four feedings . I inspected his poop to see that it passed .

It passed. It was the size of a toothpick, but flatter. He shed his skin and is eating well now.
