Tegu Discoloration

Hello All,

I noticed that the belly side of my tegu is turning an orange color. It seems to be kind of spotty but definitely noticeable. It doesn't rub off either. I use Zoomed's Forest Floor substrate and she gets plenty of UVA/UVB. Currently feeding her chicken gizzards, tilapia, mealworms all supp with Ca. I'll upload some pics shortly.

Any ideas?

I have seen snakes pick up a reddish brown color on their bellies when they are kept on damp substrates of certain types.

My tegu did this too for awhile, the orange has mostly gone away as he has gotten older.

I personally suspected it was from to much D3 being added to the diet, I have no evidence to support this though.

That's what it looks like. I use a Ca supplement without D3 so I don't know what it could be. But if it has gone away over time then I'm not concerned about it. I wanted to make sure it wasn't a serious skin condition.

Some people believe it's a genetic thing, but it's nothing to worry about.
