I think they're asking two different questions. - How to tell the difference between female and male tegus, and the other one, I'm not sure.
If that is the question, then male tegus start showing at about 6 months. They get little "balls" that you can feel by the vent. Sometimes they also start getting fat cheeks, but that usually comes later. Females don't get the fat cheeks, and are smaller than the males.
