Hi everybody.
So i got a female argintine b&w that was about 8 months old about 6 weeks ago. I was planning on getting a hatchling and so when i brought her home i put her in my 55 gallon hatchling setup. It was a 4x1x2 (ft) so obviously not big enough to be a long term enclosure. In terms of handling and taming she was doing great. But now i have moved her to her adult home a 2x1x1 (m) hydroponic tent on its side and she was fine for like a week, but this week she started doing weird things. Like when i open the door to handle/feed her she makes a quick dash for her burrow and refuses to come out for the rest of the day. The first time she did it i left her be and left food in there for her(monday). The second time she was in the middle of eating the the food i left for her the day before(tuesday) and i let her be again but not before taking out monday's food. On tuesday i left no food. Wednesday she did it yet again. Yesterday i uncovered her and without taking her out she went to the basking spot on her own and ate like normal. But today she flipped out again. Now i dont want to make a habit of uncovering her. And i dont want to just leave food lying around in there for her. Im wondering if maybe she is trying to hybernate and i should just leave her alone all together and not feed her at all? Idk i'm new. And a bit disappointed as ive only gotten to spend a month with her.

Do you know Forsure this was a captive bread animal and not wild caught ?
Normally tegus will only seriously hibernate after their first time. And most the of the time breeders won't allow them to hybrnate so they never really get into the swing of it, they may start to act sluggish and maybe a little withdrawn and slow down on eating but they wont fully go down.
I also asked if it was wild caught because my girl Loki was a wild caught, and this is how she acted for a while, but she calmed down fast. I also have her in a 95 gal with alsmost 5 in of dirt so she burns off a lot of energy now lol. Keep up with handling you MUST BE RELENTLESS. Every day. Do not skip a day. It will get easier when you have her on a normal cycle. You've only had him/her for a month it takes a lot of time. It was almost 5 months before Loki would even let me cuddle her. Just start slow with head runs and chin rubs, the bond will come.< 3

Also try putting a dirty shirt in the enclosure for a couple days some say it starts to make them associate your smell with safety
