Tegu from Italy

[attachment=3333]Hi I'm new in the Tegu world (I've got only experience in breeding tortoises (Testudo genus) and I'd like to show you my new Tupinambis merianae called Ciro. The problem is the name, in Italy is a boy name, while I'm getting more an more convinced that Ciro is a female (better for me). What do you think aabout that?
I have this lizard roughly since 15 days and the owner that sold me he told that Ciro was coming fro LA FERME TROPICAL in Paris (I think they import Ciro from USA, if you got any new let me know) and he/she has 1 year and half!

Hi welcome to the site and congratulations on the new gu. The name doesn't matter,.. it's more of an owners preference issue, the tegu doesn't know if it has a male or female name. As for verifying her sex can you post a picture of her vent/cloaca,.. it would help to see if she has a button on each side. Unless you can see or feel them yourself,.. since on top of jowls only males have them.

Just a heads up, I would work on getting the shed off of the last bit of her tail. The tip is starting to shrink so circulation has been and or, is being compromised and she could loose that part,.. and more if not fixed.

You can give her a bath and let her soak for a bit to soften the shed so that it's easier to remove and or rub olive oil on to it.
