so i got my tegu (Zangetsu) in april, and when i 1st got him he was only 11". from april to june he grow an amazing 19 inches!! but then shortly after that his uv light broke an it took me a little longer than i wanted to get him a new bulb (it took me a little over 3 weeks to get the new bulb) since then he hasnt grown not one inch, and its September now the time when they start going into hibernation...he's slowed down his eating and still comes out. hes just been the same size now for two months... i know some tegus dont hibernate but when they choose not will there growth be affected?

When tegus don't hibernate, they usually continue to grow as they would in spring, whereas when they do hibernate, their growth stops from when they begin to slow down to when they wake up.

Hi Laderday and welcome to the site.

Whether your tegu hibernates or not he should be fine its normal for them to slow down around this time of year. If your Gu is active enough and its still warm outside where you are, get him outside to catch some rays. Natural sun and heat is better than artificial. You'll definitely notice the difference, just be careful and make sure that you either have him on a leash or some where that he can't get a way from you. Being outside can be stressful and he may decide to bolt or come after you  . I don't know what you're feeding him but switch it up and try something different from the norm, they get bored with the same foods just like we do.

Also check the thickness of the base of his tail. Its where they store their fat so if that's nicely plump and round you shouldn't have anything to worry about. But to be on the safe side you can always take a fecal sample to the vet. 3 months is along time for a tegu not to grow any, especially between June and Sept.
